The Reds Vows Not to Abandon Forward-Thinking Philosophy Amid Poor Run of Form, Says Arne Slot

Liverpool's head coach has announced that the Anfield decision-makers agree with his assessment regarding the poor performance streak and he will not abandon their forward-thinking philosophy in search of a turnaround. The tactician admitted that six losses in seven outings was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Growing Expectations During Difficult Period

Slot accepted the expectations were high before his altered lineup suffered Carabao Cup elimination against their Premier League rivals. However, he insisted that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or executive leadership following a substantial investment of approximately £450 million.

"They say similar things," remarked Slot, whose team next week face the Spanish giants in the European competition and play against Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League.

Player Depth Continues Unchallenged

Slot believes his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are all fit and all ready for the programme we are facing". He said that the summer investment in footballers like the attacking midfielder and the forward, who is likely to miss out again against the Birmingham club through physical problems, had left the club "in such a good place for the near future and the long-term future".

Gelling Difficulties

When asked why his team were having difficulty blending, he answered: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I offer insights and people say I'm making justifications. I can list five or six reasons why we are underperforming or suffering defeats as we do but, as I consistently state, there are inadequate reasons to have a performance streak as we had now."

  • No matter if I could list 200 excuses
  • Leading this club you must avoid losses
  • The reality is six losses from seven matches

Defensive Numbers

Only Burnley (21) have faced more big chances from regular play this season than the Merseysiders (19). The table-toppers, the North London club, have allowed just two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the defense has been too vulnerable and maintains there is no basis to sacrifice his attacking principles for a defensive approach after ten fixtures without a clean sheet.

"In my view we're not giving up numerous openings so I see no justification to alter our approach entirely but we must improve in not conceding goals," he said.

Particular Cases

"Against Manchester United, how many openings did we give up? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were leading 3-1, we scarcely gave up a shot on target. In every match we have played so far we haven't conceded a many opportunities. Not at all. We do concede a somewhat more than the prior term but that is related to us being 1-0 down so you take a bit more risk. But overall I don't think that our challenge is that we allow too many opportunities. Our problem is we don't score the chances we create."
