The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
