Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
