Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Chants About Manager Wilder

The striker has joined the Championship side just seven months after leading derogatory chants directed at the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a agreement with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His lengthy spell at Elland Road concluded through agreement in August.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs regarding Wilder amid the club’s promotion party this spring. Currently, the one-cap England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Past Conflict Between the Striker and the Manager

The pair had history before Leeds won promotion back to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

All seems to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.

The Wilder chant gained traction in April. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder said back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Challenges

The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
