Jurgen Klopp admits rejoining to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure that included Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the league title in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the possibility that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I declared I refuse to lead a different club within the country. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I can just see what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about the specific conditions would have to unfold to bring him back to management, he revealed he isn't eager for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing under bad weather through long matches; I don’t miss going to press conferences multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks that won the league last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the idea that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and its impact at the club. The forward lost his life in a road accident alongside his brother in July.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad as well. No one within the club will ever use it for poor performances but it is the situation. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this individually is challenging. Impossible.”
