Disaster Strikes as Unintentional Detonation at Police Station in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Claims Nine Deaths
A devastating explosion at a security post in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has resulted in the fatalities of nine individuals and injuries to thirty-two others, according to police declarations.
The occurrence took place when a stockpile of impounded blast substances inadvertently exploded during management operations.
Sequence of Incidents
The detonation occurred on Friday evening at the Nowgam police station, where explosive materials confiscated in the Faridabad area in the northern province of Haryana state were being held provisionally.
Area law enforcement head declared that the blast materials were pending scientific analysis when a "very unfortunate" mishap during management caused their explosion at approximately 23:20 local time.
Official Announcements
Police authorities confirmed that this was an "inadvertent blast" and not a terrorist attack. "Alternative theories regarding the reason of this event is unneeded," stressed the law enforcement head during a press briefing.
The police station endured severe damage from the detonation, with neighboring structures also being impacted by the intense detonation.
Impact and Victims
Several automobiles were "engulfed in flames and transformed into ashen remains, with debris scattered across the location," according to official reports.
"The intensity of the detonation was such that some human remains were retrieved from close-by residences, approximately 100-200 metres away the police station," reported an police contact.
Most of the casualties were law enforcement personnel, along with scientific examination staff, two evidence documentation specialists, and a tailor who was with the team.
Government Response
The territory's Regional Leader stated sympathies and announced that an inquiry had been ordered into the tragic incident.
"I have ordered a probe to ascertain the cause of the unintentional blast. Deeply anguished by the death of valuable individuals due to exceptionally devastating unintentional explosion at Nowgam police station in Srinagar city. My sympathies to the grieving relatives. I wish for quick healing of the wounded," wrote the leader on social media.
