Acclaimed Actress Diane Ladd, Celebrated For Her Performance in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Dies at Age 89.

The Oscar-nominated performer Diane Ladd, a Hollywood veteran left us at the age of 89.

The star, whose filmography featured Chinatown, left this world in her residence in Ojai, California. The news was announced through a message from her child, Oscar-winning actor Laura Dern, her daughter.

Laura Dern, who performed alongside Diane Ladd in several movies such as Wild at Heart, described her as “my wonderful hero plus my special gift as a mother”, stating that she was by her side when she passed.

“She was an exceptional grandmother, mother, daughter, star, artist and compassionate soul that felt like a dream come true,” she wrote. “We were blessed to have her. She is now with the angels.”

Beginnings and Major Success

Her initial acting years saw small roles on television series such as Perry Mason while the 1970s had her appearing with the legendary Jack Nicholson in the film Chinatown.

That very year, the year 1974, she appeared with Ellen Burstyn in Scorsese’s celebrated dramatic comedy Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Her role landed Ladd her initial Oscar nod for best supporting actress.

Later Decades
