A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
